Outside the entrance, several 1920 era cars on loan from Midwest Picture Cars, flanked the entrance. In the lead car, two life-size mannequins, Clyde behind the wheel and Bonnie riding, shotgun, gave arriving guests quite the surprise. Not to mention Laura Perlman from Cinespace coming out from behind the cars and startling everyone with her tommy gun. Keeping with the speakeasy theme, Event Creative’s décor featured low lighting and the ambiance was completed with long wooden tables and lounge seating throughout.
Joining Big Cat were former and current Bears and other athletes: Roberto Garza, Richard Dent, Olin Kreutz, Jeremy Lincoln, Marc May, Marques Sullivan a long with George Daniels and Ashley Hooks, Miss Illinois USA 2012 and Reality TV contestant Russ Swan from Survivor: Samoa and Survivor: Philippines.
Approximately 200 guests mingled and sipped signature cocktails provided by St Claire Vodka, beer from Corona Extra, chocolate wine from Chocolatier Wine and Pepsi products. A lavish buffet spread provide by Gala Catering had guests filling their plates with freshly grilled salmon and chicken accompanied by a pineapple relish, a vegetable melody and roasted potatoes. An extensive salad bar and mini cheesecakes, brownies and cupcakes rounded out the buffet.
DJ Hot spun tunes mixing up the beat and keeping the dance floor filled. Midway through the evening Emcee, Summer Jackson from WCIU, kicked off the program talking about the three nonprofits Big Cat Charities supports (*information below). James Big Cat Williams was introduced. He thanked everyone for coming and talked why the three charities are important to him. Big Cat introduced honorary chair Rev Tom Behrens, founder of The Night Ministry, a nonprofit which has been helping people on Chicago's nighttime streets struggling with loneliness, despair, poverty, substance abuse, homelessness and more since, 1976.
